Following the excellent first appearance of Alan Laing last month we have another first-timer to Linlithgow Jazz in Sally McGreevy.
It’s a slight deviation from our more standard jazz evenings, but I’m sure you’ll forgive us when you see and hear what we have for you!
For the last decade or so, Edinburgh singer Sally McGreevy has written and starred in a Fringe show each year, based on the songs and life of an iconic singer, and past performances have highlighted – among others – the lives and careers of Dusty Springfield, Julie Christy, Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland.
This year, Sally’s subject was Liza Minelli so it seemed like a great opportunity to combine two of her one-hour sell-out Fringe shows into a special Linlithgow Jazz night – ‘Judy & Liza’. Expect to hear lots of fascinating facts about these mother and daughter superstars as well of many of their fabulous songs.
Sally’s regular band for these shows is well-known to us as it is the same personnel as our house band – Campbell Normand on piano, Jimmy Taylor on bass and Dave Swanson on drums.
Tickets (£13) for the show are on sale now in Far From the Madding Crowd, 20 High Street, Linlithgow and online at Ticketsource.
As ever the fun takes place in the Queen Margaret Hall (see the About section for details) and doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start, running till around 10pm. Don’t forget the night is BYOB (and glasses, and snacks etc), so stock up, or give yourselves time to nip across the road to the supermarket! Tea/coffee is available at the interval.
