We return to our regular jazz programming in September, when we feature our favourite jazz violinist Seonaid Aitken with her new Grappelli Night show.
Award-winning violinist Seonaid pays tribute to her French Jazz violin hero Stéphane Grappelli to mark 25 years since his passing. Specialising in Gypsy Jazz, Seonaid is a regular tutor at the Grappelli-Django Camp in The Netherlands and performs extensively with her Scottish Jazz Award-winning band Rose Room.
She has also been a guest with the Tim Kliphuis Sextet, Tokyo Django Collective, Swing 2023 and top jazz fingerstyle virtuoso – and former Grappelli guitarist – Martin Taylor MBE. Seonaid and her piano quintet will celebrate Grappelli’s 60+ year career with swingin’ tunes from his solo repertoire such as ‘Pent Up House’, ‘Ol’ Man River’ and ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ and will be sure to include a few numbers from his Quintette du Hot Club de France days and legendary duets with Classical violin virtuoso Yehudi Menuhin.
This brilliant quintet comprises: Seonaid Aitken – violin, Conor Smith – guitar, Dan Brown – piano, Andy Sharkey – bass and Max Popp – drums.
Quite a few tickets were sold at our previous events but the remainder are on sale at Far From The Madding Crowd, 20 High Street, Linlithgow and online at TicketSource
As our regulars know, any night featuring Seonaid is sure to be a sell out so please don’t delay in buying your ticket(s) as we’d hate you to be disappointed!
The fun takes place in the Queen Margaret Hall (see the About section for details) and doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start, running till around 10pm. As ever the night is BYOB (and glasses, and snacks etc), so don’t forget to give yourselves time to nip across the road to the supermarket! There is however tea/coffee available at the interval.
